Termination or surrender

Singlife separates ending a policy that has no cash value from surrendering one that does. The right form depends on the type of plan.

No cash value: terminate

For some policies without cash value, MySinglife has a termination request under Services, then Policy Servicing.

Cash value: surrender

Singlife lists separate surrender or withdrawal forms for traditional policies, investment-linked or global investment plans, and universal life plans.

Policies from Aviva

A legacy Aviva policy may carry a different name or servicing route. Check the policy details rather than guessing from the brand.

Before you surrender

  • Your net surrender value

Ask for the current figure after any loan and unpaid premiums.

  • Paid-up instead

Singlife describes paid-up conversion for eligible policies: no more premiums, reduced cover kept.

  • A policy loan

Available on select cash-value plans. Check Singlife's current loan rate on its own page.

  • Trusts and cover

A policy under trust needs extra documents, and surrender ends every benefit, riders included.

How to submit

  1. Find the policy in MySinglife or your documents.
  2. Get its current surrender value, and check whether it has cash value at all.
  3. Choose the route: termination in MySinglife, or the surrender form for a traditional, investment-linked or universal life plan.
  4. Gather any identity or trust documents the form asks for.
  5. Sign and submit as Singlife instructs, and keep the acknowledgement.
  6. Check the outcome and the payout.

What to bring

What the form for your plan type asks for. Policies under trust may need the trustees' documents.

How long it takes

Singlife reports processing within about 5 working days after it receives complete, signed documents for certain requests. Payout time is extra, and fund valuation can add time for investment-linked plans.

Singlife questions

Is termination the same as surrender?

No. Termination ends a policy without cash value. Surrender ends a policy with cash value and pays it out.

Where are the Singlife surrender forms?

On Singlife's policy servicing page, listed by type of plan.

Does it matter that my policy was Aviva?

It can. Legacy Aviva policies may have different names or servicing routes, so check your policy documents.

Can I do it in MySinglife?

For terminating some policies without cash value, yes. Surrendering a policy with cash value uses the forms.

Can I make the policy paid-up instead?

Singlife describes paid-up conversion for eligible policies. You stop paying premiums and keep reduced cover.

I bought it recently. Can I just cancel?

Singlife describes a 14-day free-look period for its stated policies. Cancelling in that window is different from surrendering later; check your policy's terms.

Can I sell a Singlife or Aviva endowment instead?

Often, if it is a participating endowment or whole life policy paid in cash. Check yours and we tell you whether we would buy it.

You never need to give us your NRIC to read this guide or to reach Singlife's forms.
