Straight answers on selling a policy, surrendering one, money and timing, and staying safe.

Selling

Is selling a policy legal in Singapore?

Yes. An assignable life policy can change owners by absolute assignment, a transfer the Policies of Assurance Act 1867 recognises. Some policies cannot be assigned, such as those held in a trust or pledged to a lender.

No. Once the policy is assigned to us, its benefits, including the death benefit, are paid to us. Arrange new cover first if you still need it.

How do you work out your offer?

We value the guaranteed maturity benefit and the bonuses already added, take off the premiums still to pay, and work it back to today at the return we need. More on resale value
